Lokpriya an evening of Ghazals with Hariharan. Besides art and semi-classical music, Indian music also finds expression through light and popular music, which have enormous mass appeal. The concept of rasa-bhava or aesthetic emotion, which is the essence of Indian art philosophy, is unequivocally realised through the abstract medium of sound complemented with meaningful lyrics as in light music forms such as ghazal and geet. This edition of Lokpriya series features ghazals with Hariharan, whose versatility ranges from multilingual playback singing for films, fusion and ghazal. Mentored by his mother Shrimati Alamelu, Hariharan has been trained in Carnatic and Hindustani classical music under Ghulam Mustafa Khan. Drawing inspiration from the songs of Mehdi Hassan and Jagjit Singh, Hariharan developed a passion for ghazals and went on to master the art along with a rigorous training in Urdu.
